Case Study 8 - Anaerobic Digestion (AD)
Short DescriptionWestwood AD plant in Rushden, Northamptonshire was commissioned in June 2009 and processes 45,000 tonnes of food waste each year. This amount of food waste can produce 2MW of renewable electricity, sufficient to power 3,000 homes continually for a year. The plant processes all manner of packaged and unpackaged food waste providing a unique and value added service for food retailers who send their food waste there. Furthermore, the plant produces 35,000 tons of a superior liquid biofertiliser, enough to support 1,750 acres of growing crop.
